Skin Ageing

What causes skin aging?

There’s nothing you can do to stop ageing, but there is a lot we can do to help to prevent the visible signs of ageing. How our skin looks affects how old we feel and how old we look to others. Your skin is hugely influenced by your body’s general wellbeing and if your body is not healthy it is often reflected by your skin.

Some of the signs of ageing skin are:

  • Thinning and wrinkling which happens as the rate of cell production slows in the epidermis. The skin may also become thinner and these changes can cause creping and wrinkling.
  • Sagging in older skin as less elastin (elastic fibres for suppleness) and collagen (dense fibres for strength) are made and your skin ultimately yields to the forces of gravity.
  • Age spots that appear as pigment cells start to increase in certain areas, like the backs of your hands which have been exposed to the sun, and cluster together, forming age or liver spots.
  • Dryness, roughness and itching caused because older skin has fewer sweat and oil glands.

How fast and how much your skin ages is determined by, in part, genetics. Far more important factors are smoking, pollution, sun tanning stress and lack of sleep and poor nutrition.

So is there anything you can do to lessen the effects of aging on your skin? Yes, you have lots of options and the first thing you need to do is to talk to the expert therapist at your local salon providing Totalcare treatments.

The experts recommend:

Ksenon IPL
The Ksenon IPL (Intense Pulse Light Therapy) system delivers smooth and powerful pulses of light (not lasers) that greatly enhances your skin rejuvenation therapy. It stimulates new collagen production for smoother, more even, healthier skin. It also stimulates fresh cells and improves the movement of nutrients, free radicals & dead cells.
VitaPeel

This is an excellent treatment in 3 steps:

  1. First of all, Gala Limpiderm deep cleansing gel is drawn deep into your skin’s pores using a tiny electric current to clean out your pores, removing any debris and excess oil.
  2. Then a gentle vacuum takes away any dead cells, clogged pores and blackheads.
  3. Finally, any deeper blackheads are treated with Vitapeel Ion micro crystals that carefully remove the upper layer of the epidermis before the vacuum once again clears everything away. This is used with a combination of Gala products that rehydrate and balance the pH of the skin as it nourishes it deep down. It also has a red light which has been proven by NASA research in stimulating fresh cells and improving over all skin health and balance. The microcurrent will lift and firm loose skin.
