Pigment Spots / Skin SpotsWhat are pigment spots?Pigment spots are brown or dark brown flat or raised spots on your skin. They are completely harmless and are caused or exaggerated by hormones within the skin. People with dark skin and pregnant women with increased hormonal production are especially prone to pigment spots. Acne can also produce them especially if the spots are squeezed or if the acne infection is slow to heal - the pigment marks can be darker and may last eight to twelve weeks. Other major causes are unprotected exposure to sunlight and skin injury (e.g. cut, burn or an infection). But don’t worry. You will find help at your nearest salon providing Totalcare treatments. The experts recommend:Ksenon IPL (Intense Pulse Light Therapy) is ideal for larger areas and even pigment that is in the first few layers of the epidermis. Specific filters are used for colour contrast and to ensure the pigmented skin is treated and sometimes the area may initially turn darker as part of the healing process. Salons providing Ksenon treatments >> Apiderme, perfect for small pigment spots, either flat or slightly raised, on the very surface of the skin, like those usually found on the hands.
